A Message from President Wong
SF State charted my course in life. I can’t tell you how often I hear this from our graduates. If you were able to join us for Alumni and Family Weekend in October, I know you heard it, too. During this special celebration, the newest members of our Alumni Hall of Fame spoke of SF State as the compass that guided them to their true passions.
Those passions have taken our graduates to successful careers across the globe. I have heard these former students speak of SF State with pride and gratitude as far away as Seoul, South Korea, where I recently met with one of our many thriving alumni chapters. Today, two new partnerships with Quancheng College Penglai in China and CETYS University in Mexico promise that our global impact will continue to grow.
From San Francisco to Seoul, I also sense a powerful excitement about the immediate future of SF State. In recent months, we have tried to capture this renewed sense of spirit and optimism in our next generation Gator mascot mark (see p. 7), redesigned homepage on our University website, “We Make It Happen” street banner campaign and community events.
One of the highlights of the past semester was the opening of the new Gym and dedication of the adjacent Don Nasser Family Plaza. Our student athletes cheered as we cut the ribbon on a much-needed upgrade to the facility complete with purple bleachers for Gator fans. Don Nasser (B.A., ’63), the generous alum who made this renovation possible, demonstrates the enduring strength of our University community.
Still, we know there is much more work to be done on this campus. That is why I am excited to launch the University’s first comprehensive campaign in January. Driven by goals outlined in our soon-to-be announced Strategic Plan, the campaign will help transform our teaching, research and service initiatives for generations to come.
Thank you for all you do to help guide our students to their true north in communities near and far. Together, we make futures happen.
