SF State Alumni in Love: A Cause for CelebrationA three-part strip of photos taken in a photo booth during the 1980s. The images capture a couple in love smiling and kissing.

Dan Button(B.S., '83) spied his true love working behind the counter of a snack bar in SF State's student union. "Throughout the semester I continued to order food from her, even if I had just finished lunch," he recalls. "Finally, I found the nerve to ask her out, and unbelievably, she said 'yes.'" He and Jamie Button (B.A., 84) were married two years and many bagels later. "I received more than an outstanding education at State. I also got the woman of my dreams, the mother of my children, and my best friend."

The Buttons are not alone. Hundreds of couples of all ages and stages in their relationships met as students at SF State or after graduation. Whether they attended the University together or years apart, all alumni couples are invited to celebrate their love (and their Gator connection) at a pre-Valentine's Day dinner at SF State's Seven Hills Conference Center on Feb. 10. The evening will include music, mingling -- and a love story contest.

Alumni planning to attend are encouraged to write and submit stories of how they met their true Gator love, either on- or off-campus. Selected writers will receive a prize at the event and have the opportunity to read their award-winning stories.

Stories should be no more than 350 words and may be e-mailed to sfsumag@sfsu.edu with the words "SF State Love Connection" in the subject line. The deadline for entries is Feb. 7.

To purchase tickets to the dinner ($50 per person), please contact Adele Demler in University Development at 415/405-3648 or ademler@sfsu.edu
