Streets of SF State
"Once a Con," an episode of ABC’s classic television series "The Streets of San Francisco," was shot on location at SF State in November 1976. The Student Union, completed just a year before, offered a stunning backdrop for a dramatic chase on foot. The series starred Michael Douglas as college-educated rookie detective Steve Keller and Karl Malden as veteran San Francisco Police Detective Mike Stone. Images from the shoot can be found in the Special Collections and Archives Department of the J. Paul Leonard Library, along with other photographs of campus events. The department houses distinctive collections including the Marguerite Archer Collection of Historic Children’s Materials as well as books on San Francisco history. Special Collections and Archives is open to the campus community and the general public, Monday through Friday, 1 to 5 p.m. Reference assistance can be arranged by appointment.
