Class Notes

'50s
The Twenty First Century College Preparatory Academy in Bayview Hunters Point has been renamed The Willie Brown Jr. (B.A., '55) College Preparatory Academy in honor of the former mayor of San Francisco.

"Where Innocents Die" (PublishAmerica, 2005), a novel by Alvin T. Guthertz (B.A., '57), follows Scotland Yard Inspector Royce Collins into a horror mystery.

'60s
Gordon Sammon(B.A., '64) details his personal spiritual journey in "49 Mighty Scriptures" (PublishAmerica, 2005).

Gerald S. Schatz(B.A., '67), a lawyer and ethicist, has joined the faculty of the Center for Ethics and Humanities in the Life Sciences in Michigan State University's College of Human Medicine. 

'70s
Elie Saheb(B.A., '72; M.B.A., '74) has been appointed regional vice president for Boutique Hotels and Resorts International's Middle East location. He is based in the company's Beirut office.

Michael Amatori (B.A., '74), the production manager of KGO/KSFO Radio in San Francisco, has raised more than $90,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Northern California, through the sale of two CD compilations of his work.

Keith Kutner(B.A., '77) is a professor of business and applied technology at South Texas College in McAllen, Texas.

Janlee Wong(M.S.W., ‘77) has begun a three-year term on the Council on Social Work Education, the national accrediting body for social work education.

'80s
Alice E. Rogoff (M.A., '80; M.A.,'90), the editor of the Haight Ashbury Literary Journal, has self-published "Murals," a collection of poetry, through 1st World Library.

Chaz Austin (M.A., '81) is the director of placement at Video Symphony, a nationally accredited institute of entertainment media production.

Watsonville High English teacher Vinnie Hansen's (M.A., '82) fourth book, "Tang Is Not Juice" (Mainly Murder Publishing, 2005), continues the adventures of baker/sleuth Carol Sabala following "Murder, Honey," "One Tough Cookie" and "Rotten Dates."

"Coming to Treeline: Adirondack Poems" (St. Huberts Press, 2005) by Pamela Cranston(B.A., '84) celebrates the High Peaks Region of the Adirondacks in upstate New York.

Will Tuttle (M.A., '84) makes a case for using food choices as a spiritual exercise in "The World Peace Diet: Eating for Spiritual Health and Social Harmony" (Lantern Books, 2005).

Lisa Frankfort (B.A., '86; M.S., '88) has been named director of Haight Ashbury Psychological Services and written her second book, "How to Stop Backing Down and Start Talking Back" (New Harbinger, 2005).

'90s
Cal Orey (M.A., '90) published "The Man Who Predicts Earthquakes: Jim Berkland, Maverick Geologist—How His Quake Warnings Can Save Lives" (Sentient, 2005)

Pamela M. Johnson(B.A., '94) published "From a Hard Rock to a Gem: A Memoir of a Lost Soul" through her publishing company, Macavelli Press, in 2004.Filmmaker Duncan MacLeod (B.A., '95) has released a documentary focused on the sport of Mexican wrestling, "La Lucha" ("The Struggle"), through Image Entertainment.

"Tenders in the Fog," a play by Trevor Allen(M.F.A.,'99), premiered at the San Jose Stage Company in September. Previously, his one-man show "Working for the Mouse," focused on his stint as Pluto at Disneyland.

'00s
Kathrina Therese Quiambao(B.A., '00), a model and actress, appears as Inez the nurse in "Counting the Days," a film screened at The New York International Independent Film and Video Festival in September.

Being surrounded by billions in cash is all in a day's work for Andrea Abrams(M.A., '02). She coordinates the tour program at the Federal Reserve Bank in downtown Los Angeles.

"Reading Between the Rhymes," a documentary video produced by Keith Morikawa (B.A., '04) as a class project at SFSU, won Best College Documentary at the Best Fest America Film Festival.
