SF State on Film

The "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon" game challenges film fans to connect the popular actor to his colleagues through the movies and television shows they have worked on -- all in no more than six steps. But move over, Bacon. We have an SF State version of the Hollywood connections game.

Arthur Dong?s documentary "Hollywood Chinese" features alumnus B.D. Wong, who stars as Henry Wu in "Jurassic Park," which features Academy Award-winning sound work from alumnus Shawn Murphy, the scoring mixer for "Schindler?s List," a film with an Academy Award-winning screenplay by alumnus Steve Zaillian. Zaillian wrote the screenplay for ?Searching for Bobby Fischer,? which features production design by alumnus David Gropman, who was nominated for an Oscar for production design for "Cider House Rules," a film that stars alumnus Delroy Lindo, whose acting credits include ?The Exonerated? with alumnus Danny Glover, who provides the voice for the soldier ant Barbatus in "Antz," a film animated by alumnus David Spivack. Spivack also provided animation for "Shrek 3," a film overseen by alumna Gloria Borders, studio head at PDI/Dreamworks and an Academy Award-winning sound effects editor.

Borders was the associate producer of "Peter Pan," which features model-making by alumnus Tori Belleci. Belleci created the podracers for "Star Wars: Episode I -- The Phantom Menace," which features voice work by alumnus Greg Proops and character animation by alumna Victoria Livingstone, lead animator for "Happy Feet," which features the animation/visual effects work of Assistant Professor of Cinema Raquel Coelho. Coelho was an animator for "Moon Girl," which features sound work by alumnus Chris Scarabosio, the sound effects editor for "A.I.," which features the voice of Teddy courtesy of alumnus Jack Angel, who contributed his voice talents to ?Lilo and Stitch? with three-time Academy Award-winner Christopher Boyes, who served as the film?s sound designer, re-recording mixer and supervisor. Boyes was the supervising sound editor for "Bugsy," which features alumnus Ethan Van der Ryn, a two-time Academy Award-winner, as the foley editor and alumna Annette Bening, a three-time Oscar nominee, as Virginia Hill. Bening?s other acting credits include the title character in ?Mrs. Harris,? which features alumnus Michael Paul Chan as Dr. Louis Roh. Chan played the part of Harold in "The Joy Luck Club" which features sound work by alumnus Curtis Choy, the production sound editor for "Forbidden City," a film with a script written in part by alumna/Professor Lorraine Dong, who contributed her writing talents to the first film Arthur Dong made during his time as a student at SF State, the Academy Award-nominated "Sewing Woman."
