Barred from Life
SFSU Alums' Latest Project Focuses on Wrongful Convictions

Lending their fame to a project with a powerful message, Danny Glover(attended '67-'72; Honorary Doctor of Fine Arts, '97) and Delroy Lindo(B.A., '04) will soon appear in a film which tells the true stories of six people set free after spending years on death row for crimes they did not commit.

The two SFSU alumni joined fellow cast members David Brown Jr., Brian Dennehy, Aidan Quinn and Susan Sarandon to film Bob Balaban's adaptation of the award-winning off-Broadway play, "The Exonerated." The film, which illuminates the cracks in the American justice system, is scheduled to air on Court TV several times in early 2005.

In the film, the actors speak of the wrongful convictions in the words of the former inmates themselves, culled from interviews, letters and court transcripts.

Glover, who has also performed the play on stage, speaks on behalf of David Keaton, a man sentenced to death for murder. Keaton was released after two years in prison when the actual killer was identified and convicted. Lindo plays the part of Delbert Tibbs, a man convicted of rape and murder who spent three years on death row before he was declared innocent and set free.
