President’s Message

Lynn Mahoney

As I write this, thousands of students are once again filling our classrooms and hanging out on the Quad as we start a new semester with great excitement. The start of the fall never ceases to fill me with joy. As this issue highlights, there are always exciting things happening at SF State. And this year promises to be no exception.

Perhaps most exciting of all, we open two new buildings this fall. The Science and Engineering Innovation Center replaces the 64-year-old Science building many of you will recall. The incredible, state-of-the-art new facility will allow for more interactive and innovative learning and turn the heads of all those who pass by on 19th Ave.

We also welcomed new first-year residential students to the Grove, the first California State University residence hall to be built with substantial state funding. With 65% of the cost supported by the state, SF State was able to offer more than 700 students reduced-rate housing — easing the cost of attendance for students who need it most.

I invite you all — I urge you all — to come visit campus. Check out our newest buildings, attend a show or a game, drop by some of your old haunts or just relax on the Quad. Remember, this will always be your home!

Best,
